Name of Artist: Ansel Adams
Dates of Artist’s Life: Feb 20,1902 - 1984
1. Personal Background:
Ansel Adams was born in San Francisco. He was home schooled He was well known for his black and white photographs of the American Old West. He is also an environmentalist and was trained as a professional pianist. He invented the "Zone System" with his friend. He became interested in photography on a visit to Yosemite in 1916. He has won the Hasselblad Awards, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Sierra Club John Muir Award, and many other awards.
2. Style:
Adams work involves a lot of nature. Many of his work are landscape and close views of plants. His work are black and white. They show a lot of uses in negative and positive space, especially in landscape photos where negative space is equal as important as positive space. His photos are mostly asymmetrically balanced.
3. Philosophy:
Adam's work preserves the wilderness and articulates the wilderness. He shows the idea of “a mystique: a valid, intangible, non-materialistic experience”(sonya). Adams was home schooled and had no siblings, so he would spend his time in the nature. Later, when he found a interest in photography, he took a lot of photos of the nature and shows a strong feeling for what he is taking pictures of. This also connects with his job as an environmentalist.
4. Influences:
I really like Adam's photos. Personally, I also like to take pictures of the nature. Landscapes are extra appealing to me. When I look at his work, I feel something ( it's hard to explain). When I take my pictures, I try to create a similar feeling. Also, the angle he use to take his pictures and the way all the components of the picture go together is very inspiring. I have tried to use similar angle (but didn't look as nice as his).

6. Compare and Contrast:
One difference between our images is that my image is put together by 2 pictures and his was just one picture. Second is that his image probably used real flower and real wood but mine was made of a fake flower and a piece of paper. Third difference would be that his image has more contrast then mine and is overall brighter. One similar thing about our images was that both of our flowers were facing left. Overall, his image would be more balanced and well composed.
7. Personal Artist Statement:
My image shows a lonely flower. It looks like there's something in the back to keep it company. However, that's actually fake and has no dimensions so the flower is still lonely. The overall lighting is also dim because the flower is sad and depressing. The lack of colors adds onto that feeling. So, this is a sad and lonely flower.

6. Compare and Contrast: You will need to compare and contrast your final 3 images with the 3 images you choose by your photographer. Write about each piece (5 sentence.)
One difference between our image is that his is real plants while mine is made out of paper. The organization of the components of are image looks alike. A major difference is that I counldn't find
7. Personal Artist Statement: Your images should tell a story. In 5 sentences tell me about your image

6. Compare and Contrast:
His image gives off a different feeling then mine. His image is brighter then mine because I dimmed mine. His image has real flowers and mine are fake. His image has more flowers than mine. His image and my image, however, both has flowers.
7. Personal Artist Statement:
His image is showing the beauty of the flowers like how they stay white coming out from the mud. Mine is a different story. It shows how they get dirty and aren't as white after being picked out. That's why the lighting is dark and it looks like there's something on the petals. Many flowers are also missing a petal because they lost them. So sad.
